Charles Lazarus started his dream at age 25 in 1948. He created a child oriented business known as Children’s Bargain Town. I was a baby furniture store that he ran by himself including the bookkeeping and delivery merchandise to the customer’s homes. As he grew his company he introduced infant and children’s toys. As toy brake and get old fast with children this kept parents returning time and again unlike with furniture. About 10 years later Lazarus changed his company into s supermarket model for his store. It allowed the customers to look at the products on their own and then pay for them at a checkout stand. After he opened his second store it was then that he decided on the name Toys R Us. As the organization grew he continued to create a bigger loyal customer base. In 1960, Lazarus introduced the jingle known by Toys R Us today, “I don’t want to grow up, I’m a toys r us kid.” Today Toys R Us is one of the most recognized and beloved brands in the world ("Toys R Us", 2015).
Through the years Toys R Us continues to grow and in 1996 the company added apparel to most of the stores across the country and also launched Babies R Us. In 1984 the company launched a worldwide presence and opened their first international store in Canada and Singapore. 10 years later a store was opened in Japan and more than 30 years after the first international store opening of Toys R Us there are now 730 international stores and over 230 licensed stores in 36 countries and jurisdictions outside of the United States ("Toys R Us", 2015).
In 1998, Toys R Us recognized the incredible potential of the internet and launched toysrus.com. The site quickly became one of the fastest growing sites in the specialty toy and baby products shopping categories. Today the site is one of the most visited sites and offers exclusive and fantastic deals every day. Babiesrus.com also offers a wide selection of baby product and supplies along with a premier baby registry ("Toys R Us", 2015).
Business owners that chose to conduct business online have a number of potential risk and rewards. The increased exposure is one of the greatest rewards as proper search engine placement can have people from around the world that otherwise might have never been able to find the business prior could now do so with a few clicks or keystrokes.
