Abstract
Research by Guo and Yesenia (2005) supports the statement that communication is essential for people to maintain relationships whether in business organizations, families, teams, groups, or nations. The way people get information can be easy, but the challenge for people is in managing and interpreting it. Communication is a skill. A person must know the definition of communication, the types of communications, the forms of communication, and understand the communication process in order to succeed in life. Effective communication can give a person the confidence needed to build and develop relationships. Effective communication can help an individual manage internal and external meetings at work. Effective communication can help an individual become a good leader. Effective communication can help an individual develop good influencing and negotiating skills. Also, effective communication can help an individual manage his/her reaction positively in different situations and reduce stress levels (Ormond, 2006, Para 1). Ineffective communication can lead to the opposite effect. Ineffective communication causes many problems in business organizations. An individual who is not able to express themselves using some type of communication will have an unsuccessful life. The ability to communicate is a basic requirement to be successful in life.
