Robert Zimmerman (Bob Dylan)
Folk rock singer-songwriter Bob Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota (Biography.com Editors, 2016). To begin his career in music Bob Dylan dropped out of college to pursue his passion for music. Bob Dylan was influenced by many people to include Elvis Presley, Woody Guthrie, Allen Ginsberg, and Little Richie to just name a few. He made contributions to the world by unifying people around the world through song writing which was transforming culture (Biography.com Editors, 2016). Some of his biggest influences in the world started in 1964 with his big musical hits “Blowing in the Wind” and “The Times They Are A Changing” (Biography.com Editors, 2016). These songs were anthems for rising civil rights and anti-war movements during those times. He became a voice of a generation during a turbulent time in America (Biography.com Editors, 2016).
Bob Dylan was a very creative thinker and always made his decisions no matter what anyone thought. During the mid-60’s he was at his creative peak and in 1965 he went electric and reinvented himself (Biography.com Editors, 2016). Many of his fans booed him for a good period of time but he stayed on track and eventually it stopped. His reinvention brought many new Pop fans to his music with a major hit called “Like a Rolling Stone”. Many critics analyzed his lyrics to try and get in his head but remained elusive and kept his head held high (Biography.com Editors, 2016). These are some of the defining characteristics that make him very creative and an icon in the world. In 1966 he was in a major motorcycle accident that injured him for a long time but he still stayed focused on his music and was back on the road in the 1970’s. In 1978 he was a born again Christian and was entered in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Biography.com Editors, 2016). At this time he was not finished and continued his career in music making ties with the Traveling Wilbury’s and having a major impact not only in music but through his writings all over the world. Bob Dylan continued his career without missing a beat and is still alive today at 75 Years Old.
