Current Events in Business Research
Introduction
A business research process refers to the initiative of coming up with business decisions after careful analysis of the business environment. These include the industry, the company, competitors, the market and strategies that are developed with the aim of achieving your business goals.
This research will identify the problem and the research method used; it will discuss how the research is solving the problem and identifying other potential applications using business research within my functional area.
The Research Problem and Method Used
I had a very hard time figuring out which function of my job to write on, so I opted to write about a job that I wish I can do in the future, working for the United States government. This brings me to the “Bringing Research to Life” part in Chapter 3 of the Business Research Methods.
The United States Armey hired a woman named Myra Wines along with her team to investigate and research if the area being used for testing by the Army for their munitions testing had a direct link in the increase of civilian being killed since opening the range. Myra and her team had to research and investigate a few issues. They include the local activists letting their concerns be known and requesting that the range be shut down because of it being environmentally hazardous. Another issue is that the “duds” or bombs that hit the ground and did not explode are now randomly going off. The Army seems to think that its dead shells should explode only when another bomb was dropped on it and cause it to ignite. According to the Army, “civilian deaths could not be attributed to their munitions testing or due to their testing of dropping the duds to torching them to try and ignite them”. Wines and her team hypothesized that the dead shells could explode and leaving no evidence of the event at all.
Solving Problem with Research
Wines and her team met with Army representatives to review the reports on the dead shells. They will be able to define the management questions in hopes of reaching a conclusion for the research question by reviewing these materials. They looked at all personnel that were in contact with the shells, the results left by the explosions, and frequency of dead shells in order to obtain substantial research questions. The observation revealed that civilians were tampering with the bombs, opening them in order to gather anything of value. Unfortunately the shells exploded and the scavengers were vaporized.
