During my job shadow I observed that many of the aspects of working in a salon were a lot like how I imagined them. It is a fast paced environment with constant interaction with people. I completed my job shadow at Evolve Salon, located on Morgan Farms Drive in South Windsor. My mentors name was Lucy and she helped me more then I expected. She showed me how to mix colors and hold consultations with clients and how to properly shampoo to give them a spa experience.
This job was exactly what I had expected. The environment is creative and fun while, you're on your feet most of the day. At certain times you go beyond the normal work week and style hair for weddings or work on the weekends.
One thing that surprised me was how many clients came in that were regulars. My mentor knew exactly what they wanted and kept her clients coming back because of her positive reputation and communication with them.
I would still like to pursue this career. In order to do so I would have to attend and graduate cosmetology school and continue my education throughout my career to keep up with the trends.
This job shadow was not only helpful but gave me a lot of experience and knowledge on something that I want to do with my life. It showed me the ins and outs of a salon and how everyone must work together to obtain a goal, making the clients happy. I appreciated my mentor taking the time out of her busy day to help me with this assignment and I'm glad I did it. It taught me things about this career that I didn't know and I'm grateful for being able to have this experience.
