Session 10
Robert sends out a joke via email to his co-workers on Monday morning around 10:00 am. While some people find the joke funny, it leaves others uneasy, as the central figures are a priest and a rabbi. If you were Robert’s manager, what would you do? Explain the disciplinary measures would you take (all the steps) and why (laws and implications that apply).
I will talk to Robert personally and warn him about his misbehavior. Even it is funny with the other workers it is not right to say a joke that can offend others. I will remind him that the words used in the workplace should be appropriate. Verbal warning is the first step to do. If he commits again this violation, a written warning will be given to him. The third offense will be suspension for one week and if nothing is changed with his behavior, a termination will be given to him. He has 3 warnings before he get terminated. Even I don’t like his attitude from the first time, it’s not right to terminate him immediately.

Session 11
We have studied how to discipline misconduct and how to manage performance, including the use of a PIP. Now, what do you do with an employee who plateaus and just squeaks by — never reaching their full potential? Read the case study and answer the questions.

Mike: Well, since you're the boss, I guess I'll have to listen.
Ron: Look Mike, I want this to be a two-way interchange. But there are some areas for improvement that I want to address.
Mike: Oh, sure.
Ron: Mike, you have been with the company for 3 years now. You know our goal is always to make quota — 100% for the year. However, over the past 2 years, you have stayed right around 83-85% for the year.
Mike: Well. Maybe so for the year, but my 90-day rolling average is currently 97%. I've just had a few bad months, but you know I sell and for the most part stay above 80%. And, that's pretty good. Come on, look at all the reps way below that.
