DTTN

DTTN is one of platform for enterprise to communicate and exchange data which endorsed by HKSAR government. It is recently development for E-logistics to develop value added service which will further improve user operational efficiency.

Problem:

Although DTTN is endorsed by HKSAR government, there are only limited amount of enterprises try and willing to use the system. And there are TWO main problem of DTTN which are Non globalization and Lack of government support.

Non globalization:

As we know, Logistics and intermodal transport is a global business. That means it is a trade between two or more countries. But HKSAR government only introduced DTTN to Hong Kong logistics industry. Therefore, only few numbers of enterprises in Hong Kong and Mainland adopt the system. It is not famous to overseas and International enterprises and none of them try to use DTTN system. Therefore, Hong Kong enterprises are unable to transit their document and data to those oversea enterprises as they don’t use this platform. However, intermodal transport is an international business, for example, Hong Kong retailer needs to contact and transit document to both railing and shipping company from overseas to deliver the cargo by intermodal transport, and it is a must for both of the enterprises to communicate in the one platform. As a result, many companies believe it is not necessary to develop a local E-business system for the local information transition.

Recommendation:

Since standard format of Information Technologies and policy are different in everywhere countries. It is hard to promote the DTTN to the whole world. Therefore, standardizing the code of DTTN, and promote it to Mainland market is a way to make improvement and extend the market of DTTN system.

Lack of government support

Ironically, DTTN is endorsed by government, but HKSAR government only owns 21% of shareholder of DTTN. For enterprises position, the cost of using DTTN is a main concern. Although the cost of establishing DTTN is not expensive, the training cost and time for staff is a consideration in their operation. In addition, enterprises are not received any subsidies of establishing or training staff from government. Government had no adapt any budget to support the industries to use DTTN system. As a result, a lot of enterprises have considered the weight of using DTTN system, they think that the efficient of using DTTN is not optimal and they would use more resource for another change rather than DTTN system.
