Engineering reverse innovations
Executive summary: This article is about how product’s designing is getting more global and developed. Moreover, the world standard was limited by developed countries, in everywhere uses same produced and designed products, that all settled and designed for developed countries but there are so many different cultures and different product usages are out there. However, from now on as developing countries are getting more developed the product designing is getting more diverse. And also it was before everything designed in developed country and developing countries purchased but now this is going opposite way.
Goal: Engineering mind is not considering on only developed country consumers and the world standard is not limited by developed countries. Now, designing starts from developing country to developed country.
Key arguments: There are five general problems they face in developing market.
- Trying to match market segment: Tested products. As mentioned earlier everything designed in developing country but selling in different countries (geographically, agriculturally etc..,) so it is possible that product does not really match in that country.
Solution: Avoid the existing product and design more than consumer wants and that fits in that market.
- Trying to reduce the price by eliminating features: lower price, low quality in developing market.
Solution: for example low labor cost but high material cost (good quality).
- Forgetting to think through all the technical requirements of emerging markets: different landscape, different culture, different people but same design.
Solution: analyze the technical landscape behind the consumer problem.
