Nowadays as our world becomes more integrated and the borders between different countries are going to disappear, we start looking for new opportunities. We begin to travel to another country to live, work or study. So being ready to change our life completely we pack our bags, buy the tickets and leave our countries.
But sometimes being so far from our sweet homes we begin to feel some kind of homesickness. So why does it happen with us? I think that the main reason is the cultural shock, which we start feeling first time coming across with the different culture, people, habits and traditions. It takes time to become more confident in a new circumstance, to find new friends and hobbies.
Of cores we start feeling ourselves lonely and bad.
For example, last year I and my husband spent in Dubai. My husband was working there for one international company while I was enjoying the expat's life. And of course I missed my family, my friends and my country very much. But I tried to follow simple tips in order not to fall into the depression. My tips were following:
• Plan your day
• Don't seat at home, try to go outside as much as possible
• Try to find new hobbies or clubs of interest, for instance, sport clubs, language courses, yoga classes and ect.
• Try to meet different people and make new friends
• Create your own club of interest with your new friends, for example, you can meet and discuss new movie or book, go to do shopping together and ect
And the most important thing is keeping in touch with your parents and friends via internet or telephone. They always can support you to overcome the homesickness.
