Imagine that you are on the interview selection committee to recruit people for middle management vacancies in your company, in the areas of: a) Finance and b) HR Explain what personality factors you would look for from the candidates to ensure person-job fit, and person-organization fit, and why?
a. In recruiting people for Middle Management Finance:
In recruiting a finance professional for middle management, I would like to see whether the person has following key skills for job fit that are essential for a HR professional:
- Analytical Skills
- Intrinsic Problem-solver
- Ease with technology
- Analytical Skills: I would look for persons who demonstrates logical approach in gathering and analyzing financial information. As per MBTI, a sensing type of personality who look for realistic and practical facts and data in processing information is a good fit.
- Intrinsic Problem solver: I would look for someone who is good at problem solving and stays with the problem to find solutions. Lot of energy is required to stick with a problem to find solutions in challenging times. As per MBTI, an introvert might fit for a job of this kind.
- Ease with technology: Technological advancements have reduced processing times in the area of finance. Person with resolve to learn new technology and apply are preferred. I would look for an intuitive personality who likes to learn new skills. As per MBTI, an intuitive personality is preferred.
I would look for following key skills that are essential for a finance professional to fit in an organization:
- Exceptional Leadership
- Confidence
- Team working compatibility
- Exceptional Leadership: I would look for those who are passionate, motivated and who drive themselves and others through their leadership skills.
- Confidence: I would look for someone who is extremely confident in all aspects of finance and effortlessly put forward his thoughts for top management and co-workers.
- Team working compatibility: I would look for persons who can seamlessly work on independent tasks as well as in a team with compatible work styles in a team.
As per MBTI, a personality of ISTJ might be suited as middle management finance professional for an organization.
b. In recruiting people for Middle management HR:
In recruiting a HR for middle management, I would look for following key skills that are essential for a HR professional in terms of job/work:
- Communication
- Multitasking
- Problem Solving ability
- Communication: A HR manager have to communicate with top management and to employees. So, while speaking or in written communication, they have to be clear. They are continuously engaged with people and they shouldn’t be an introvert by nature. I would look for an extraverted personality. As per MBTI an extrovert type of personality is a good fit for the job.
- Multitasking: A HR might have to deal with various issues arising at a time. Mostly all the issues come as high priority and a HR manager has to handle these kind of situations all at once giving importance to others feelings. Since, most of the times, a HR deal with feelings of employees, they should be very intuitive. I would look for an intuitive and thoughtful personalities. As per MBTI an intuitive type of personality is preferred.
- Problem Solving Ability: Most of the time a HR has to deal with problems like Internal conflicts, resource optimizations etc., To deal with problems of these kind, a HR has to analyze the facts and make logical decisions. This is one of the key personality traits of a HR and I would look for a person with thinking type of decision making rather than feeling based.
As per MBTI, a personality of ENTP might be suited for a job like middle manager HR
