Verizon Communications Inc., is based in New York and incorporated in Delaware, was formed in 2000, when the merger of Bell Atlantic Corp. and GTE took place. Verizon is truly a 21st century company, the merger that formed Verizon was a merger that was many years in the making, taking two companies that had roots that dated back to the 19th century at the beginning of the telephone era and making them one. This merger completed one of the largest mergers of its time, in U.S business history.
Verizon has now become the largest wireless and Telecommunications Company, and largest wireless data provider. Verizon has more than an estimated 101.1 million customers, including 93.2 million wireless customers and 7.9 million other customers using other connections. Verizon has become a household brand name within the wireless and communication industry. Verizon communications products can be purchased from a variety of different sources. The company also provides many other services that include telephone land lines, cell phones and is a cable satellite provider. Verizon currently employees more than 260,000 employees in the U.S. alone, with many more employees worldwide.
Verizon has become the leader in wireless and telecommunications by having a to notch leadership team. More than half of the leadership team comes with more than 20 years of experience. President and COO Lowell C. McAdam, president and chief executive officer of Verizon Communications Inc., with more than 28 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. The President and Chief Executive Officer, Daniel S. Mead was one of the founding senior executives of Verizon Wireless in 2000 and served as president of the company's Midwest area, a 15-state region that stretches from Pennsylvania to the Dakotas and from Minnesota to Kentucky. He has also held many other leadership roles in other various telecommunications functions with Verizon and its predecessor companies. John F. Killian is listed as the executive vice president and chief financial officer of Verizon communications. Killian started his career in telecommunications more than 30 years ago; Killian has held many high level leadership rolls during his communications career.
