Introduction

Fishery is the main source of income for most of the people living in the coastal areas. It is their way of living.

Fishing continued as an inherited profession as years passed though, the experience of this activity is never easy. One must do some certain task before being able to catch fishes. Fishermen also spend money first for his boat, fuel, nets, fishing rods and other facilities needed. Of course, it will be worth the harvest when those fishes are sold to the public. These fish producers gain income which is their main goal.

Fish business is also a venture for people not living in the coastal areas. These fish vendors merely buy fishes from the fishermen who harvested the fishes out of the sea. They are the one who do the actual selling on the public market. However, these activity also incurs high cost for the freight, rent, tax and other costs may it be fixed or variable.

The study attempts to get the total expenses incurred and the total income generated by fish producers to get the net profit and compare it with of the fish vendors to see who gain more profit. This will be significant to the fish merchants to arrive with the profit maximization level of their output.

The study uses the survey method to gather the necessary data. Survey respondents are the fish merchants of Tacloban City only.

Statement of the Problem

This study gathers the answers from the fish producers of Tacloban City Public Market and Shed, Old Road of Sagkahan to the following questions:

1. What are the expenses incurred in relation to harvesting the fishes out of the sea?

2. What are the expenses incurred in relation to the sales of fishes to fish vendors?
