Company Background
Fossil Group, Inc. is an American fashion designer and manufacturer founded in 1984. Their main products are fashion watches, being produced under its own brand and other licensed brands, such as Burberry, Diesel, Adidas, Michael Kors, etc. There are about 70 retail stores within Asia Pacific, with locations in Hong Kong, Macau, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.
There are 6 and 2 Retail Stores in Hong Kong and Macau respectively. The Regional Head Office is in Tsim Sha Tsui and there is a warehouse office within Airport Area.
Training and Development Functions
The Training and Development activities within Asia Pacific were handled by Training Department, which is under Human Resources Department. Under the latest company structure, there are four job positions in the department. The Training Department is led by the Training Director. He has two Training Managers (Retail and Technical, respectively) and one Training Assistant as his subordinates. The job duties of the Training Department are listed as below.
- Maintain company library records
In order to encourage our staff to maintain a reading habit, the company has allocated a reading room to store about 50 books for staff to borrow, at a maximum of 2 weeks each time. There are different varieties Staff will be required to sign on the Borrowing Records Sheet once they want to borrow a book. By the end of each working day, the Training Assistant will visit the reading room to check the borrowing records and if there is any books missing or damaged. Meanwhile, we also encourage our staff to give suggestions on the books to be included in the library. Subject to management approval, usually the request can be completed within 3 weeks.
- Liaise with translation company for preparing documents in various languages
As the company has retail stores in various countries, it will be easier for staff to understand if the company materials are prepared in their mother tongue language. Hence, the Training Department need to communicate with the assigned translation company to get the company materials from English to Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Japanese and Korean. Examples of the company materials would be Brochures of New Products Launch, Monthly Company Newsletter, etc.
- Provide training sessions on new products
Usually new products will be released for every 3 months or 6 months, varied by different licensed brands. Once we received the materials showing the features of the new products, we will co-ordinate with Retail Operations Department to host a series of training sessions. The New Product Training will be taken in 2 ways.
