Functional Areas of Business

In this paper, I will go over the functions that I am most interested in and what the roles would be in these areas.

The two functional areas of business that interest me and would also like to pursue are Leadership and Management. Leadership is one of the business functions that I have always felt I would be good at, and management has always appealed to me on a professional level. Both are interconnected in many ways as they usually go hand-in-hand.

The roles of a manager require many hats to be worn in order for success to be tangible. Some of these roles would include efficient planning, organizing, leading, motivating, and overseeing the work of others. These are all equally necessary, and the need for support from a manager’s employees is important. The absence of encouraged and helpful staff members can be detrimental to the success of an organization. “Strategic Management is what managers do to develop the organization’s strategies. It is an important task involving all the basic managing functions- planning, organizing, leading, and controlling” (Robbins and Coulter, 2012, p. 1, para. 3). The role as a manager would also be to help other employees grow as individuals in the organization. Teaching them the latest technologies, informational systems, and updating them on regulatory compliances.

The roles of a leader play an essential role in the success of managing an organization. Some of these roles would include inspiration, attitude, decision-making, and trust. The leadership function aligns objectives and strategies to facilitate movement toward a stated mission. Leaders are always seen as strong figures and examples to the employees. Therefore, leaders who carry good leadership characteristics will benefit the company and become an icon within the team (Kamisan, 2013). The shift to leaders requires a change in the work they
