There once was a time when you could go to the airport and walk the person you came with all the way to the gate.  You could watch them depart and then leave the airport.  You went through minimal security at the time. It was like a quick walk through and you were on your way.  Well what happened on September 11th has changed the way the government handles our airport security.  The security at airports used to be privatized, meaning the airports did all of the hiring and training of these individuals. Each airport had their own set of ways they did business.  You could tell that these people who worked these check points really didn’t care about their jobs.  Well now the government had to step in and created their own security force in which they did the hiring and training for these people.  They made one standard way to train people, one standard way to run their posts.  They wanted to make sure that no matter what airport you walked into, you would expect to be searched the same way.  The reason the market did fail at the airport was due to imperfect information.  We all knew of the bugs at some of these check points but no one thought that these planes would ever be used in such a way to harm people.  Now the government has come in and studied other counties and have come up with a way to make the system better for everyone and that is what we really want anyways.  The benefit here out ways the cost of doing this type of security so if you were looking at a benefit-cost analysis you would determine that the benefit of everyone’s safety out weights the cost to do this type of security.
