The benefits associated with group debates in the context of business communication are many. The most important one is the level of interaction that is reached If each participant or group assumes the defense of an idea and concentrates in the perspective that is derived from such idea, the debate truly bees a source of wisdom Two minds work better than one and in the case of a debate several minds are able to achieve even higher goals. A lot of times having several minds working together on big projects is a great thing. The reason that I say this is because an individual may be tired and their brain is fried and when you have several minds working together one somebody will strike another individual with a great idea/plan. I consider this a great advantage when it comes to group debates. However, this is not so simple to achieve and the clear drawback is that the level of coordination and good will of the participant must be high. If a participant bees inflexible and unwilling to change and to evolve towards new definitions of the point that he or she originally held, then the debate stagnates and nothing great can be expect. A group is also prone to groupthink when there are no clear rules and there is a lack of leadership. In these situations, groupthink will often occur as the result of a stronger personality taking control. In these situations, weaker personalities will occur. This problem can occur within any group when there is a lack of mediation and rules that are allowed for everyone to participate equally. For debate groups, this problem can be especially troublesome because the weaker personalities will offer little in the way of feedback or they will tend to reword or restate what the stronger personalities have stated. This is almost like not thinking for yourself. Just like most children when they are babies, toddlers and even youth age kids. They will choose or make decisions based on their parent`s strong personality. This is extremely counterproductive for achieving a goal with a group.
