Overall Introduction
Toyota Corporation is amongst the largest manufacturers of automobiles in the world. It conducts its business all over the world and its products are sold in more than 170 countries and regions. On the other hand it employs more than 300 000 people worldwide. It leads the automobile industry in the environmental technologies with the success of the hybrid technology in the Prius and hybrid Camry. It involves subsidiaries of companies which include Toyota Industries Corporation, Aichi Steel Corporation, etc. These subsidiaries are involved in production of automobiles, automobiles parts and non-automobile services. However, Toyota is striving to develop automobiles that meet the needs of the customers whilst on the other hand achieving equilibrium balance between consideration for the environment, safety, drivability and reliability.
General History and Timeline
Sakichi Toyoda was a carpenter who later changed to be an inventor. He was the founder of the Toyota Group which was known by that time as Toyoda Automatic Loom Works Ltd. He made the group to grow into big textile- machinery producer with its own cloth-making subsidiary and a factory in Shanghai. The father become well known for inventing the loom.Sakichi's son Kiichiro had to travel to Europe and United States of America so as to get more knowledge on automobiles and later on he started learning more about fuel-empowered engines.
Whilst still at the department of Toyoda Industries, there was a creation of its first product which was called the type A engine. After years of working hard, Kiichiro finally managed to manufacture the A1 passenger car in 1935.This gave birth to Toyota Motor Corporation Ltd in 1937 and the change of the name was initiated as assign of separation of work and home. He ordered for some space at the Toyota's first factory which can be regarded as just in time production.
It tends to expands regionally by building a plant which was a lorry factory in China. It was one of the several Chinese plants which Toyota would supply Japan forces during the World War 2.Taiichi Ohno joined Toyota from the group's loom-making business and he tends to introduce the ultra-lean production systems. Over the next years he introduced most of the elements that are used in the modern Toyota manufacturing. In 1947 Toyota continued by building the BM truck, SB truck and SA compact.
