Introduction
Recruitment and selection are two processes that work closely together to guarantee an organization is able to locate the right people at the right time for the right position. The purpose of recruitment is to attract a large pool of candidates for the job vacancy. Recruitment can be done either internally or externally. Organizations today tend to use medium of advertisements such as online job portals, newspaper, educational institutions and job consultancy firms for recruitment externally. For internal recruitment, most common ways are employees' referral and intranet. During this process, initiatives have to be made to inform the candidates of the selection criteria. For example, candidates are obliged to be made known on required competencies of the job. After knowing, candidates will be certain if they are cut out for the job. This awareness of required competencies assists organization in eliminating ineligible candidates before interview. This in turn will be able to save time for both employers and employees (Nankervis et al. 2011).
Many organizations believe with a successful set of recruitment and selection process adds on to the effectiveness of the Company. Recruiting and selecting the right employee enables organization to gain and maintain its competitive advantage against its competitors in the same industry. Besides that, successful recruitment and selection process adds positive factors for organization. It prevents organization from unnecessary wastage of capital: ensuring lower turnover rate. With proper process of recruitment and selection, organization will be able to bring in more revenue, maintain its reputation and save itself from lawsuits resulting from irresponsible actions from candidates selected (Nankervis et al. 2011).
With this concept in mind, organizations these days' value recruitment and selection process deeply and have come up with an exclusive set of process for themselves.
Description of organization and chosen occupation
In this essay, we will discuss on Singapore International Airline's (SIA) set of recruitment and selection process for their cabin crew.
SIA was first found in year 1972. Back in year 1972, SIA was only a territorial airline. Today, SIA has made it to one of the most reputable airline trademark globally, flying their aircrafts over five territories. With an end in mind to provide their passengers with utmost concern and quality assistance, SIA has developed a tendency to discover new changes ahead their competitors. This further pictures the objectives of SIA mission statement. (Singapore Airlines 2011).
Apart from giving the best to their passengers, SIA also took pride in their employees. One of the core values of SIA is the concernment they have for their employees.
