Industry Analysis – PLASTIC

INTRODUCTION 

Plastics is the most multipurpose and handful materials available on our planet earth and has replaced many metals and substances used since ancient time. Practically all wide range of products we use in our daily lives comprises plastic due to low cost and resourcefulness. The word “Plastic” is derived from Greek meaning Capable of molding. Plastic are Synthetic Organic Polymer derived from Petrochemicals. The first plastic material was patented in the year 1856 by Alexander Parkes, In Birmingham, UK. Latter on the Industrial Development led to Improvement in different types of Plastics.

In 2012, Plastic Industry in Europe accounted combine turnover of 300 billion euro with more than 62,000 Industries. With China on the top, Europe ranks 2nd in plastic production with 20.4% of world’s total production. Plastic Manufacturing Industry is the one of the main foundation of Italy’s Economy. In 1907 Bakelite was used for telephone, radio Production. After World War I, New form of plastics were invented and After World War II, Plastics were produced in huge quantity in 1940’s and 1950’s. Which were flooded into the Europe markets including Italy and this is how Italy started Manufacturing and exporting Plastic Products. In 1970 Plastic Bumpers were used in automobiles manufacturing as shock absorbers and high tensile plastics is used as prostheses instead of metal alloys.

  1. Polyethylene terephthalate

One of the most familiar types of plastic packaging found in American households is made from a plastic called polyethylene terephthalate, or “PET” for short. PET Stands for Plastic Encasing Technology, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Petroleum Ethanol and Polyfluoride Ethyl Tyhydrate. Introduced to consumers as the plastic soft drink bottle in the 1970s. PET quickly gained acceptance among bottlers and consumers. Because it was lightweight, economical and shatter proof, Because PET is an excellent water and moisture barrier material. PET plastic offered unique marketing and lifestyle benefits. PET plastic is now used as a packaging material for a whole range of consumer products in addition to carbonated beverages. These bottles and containers, known as “custom-PET” containers are used to package such consumer products as spring water, liquor, juice, peanut butter, salad dressing, dish detergent, mouthwash, household cleaners and tennis balls, to name just some. It is now estimated that 31% of all the plastic bottles produced in the United States are made from PET.
