Gen Salvage dismissed Major Gately from his post and made him head of the Leper club consisting of non-performers which hurt the self-respect of Major Gately and he became all more determined to regain his position back in the team with honor. As a result in Gen Salvage’s absence also Major Gately led the troop to an astounding success.

This instilled the long lost confidence in the team and they no longer considered them as the “Hard luck group”.
  8. Gen Salvage put all non-performing pilots into the Leper Group led by Major Gately which made these non-performers perform better as their self-respect was hurt. Live example was Major Gately himself.
  9. Gen Salvage started practice sessions for all to turn around the “hard luck” for the group and focused on flying basics which eventually improved their performance on the field during the course of the film.
