More people are concern about the food they chose to eat because of the increasingly high health and obesity problem. This will be a main threat for KFC because people are now transiting from high fat and high cholesterol deep fried food to a healthier and greener meal. Nowadays, restaurants like KFC are considered to have the most junk food and everyone need to try to avoid it. Therefore, KFC need to put more effort on developing heather food.
Technology
Internet and touch screen devices have been more and more popular. As a result, the online ordering system is available in most restaurants. Also, there are more payment types available for customers, such as visa, master, debit, check, and so on. Therefore, the technology has changed the traditional purchasing process; people can ordering at anytime and anywhere without physically go to the restaurant. It can make fast food more convenient and faster.
Robotic automation may be another technology to make faster food faster, Nowak (2008) find out the weakness of fast food restaurant that "fast food restaurants still depend far too much on human involvement — and are therefore susceptible to human error", he has the idea to apply robotics technology on ordering and drive-thru services to improve the process speed.
Environment
As KFC highly depend on chicken product, anything happened to chicken may have a great impact on its sales. For instance, the bird flu can significantly decrease the demand of chicken.
