What’s the situation?
• Long term family owned company that makes cookies
• Revenue is increasing and money is available to grow production and people
• Manny is a hands off owner who knows cookies but knows that there is poor morale in the operations division.
• Willie believes that workers have bad attitudes, have become complacent
• Willie is a positional leader and Willie can be heavy handed
• Manny doesn’t know what to do
• Threat of mass firing
Goal: to increase employee morale.
Productivity could be decreasing.
No motivation
Willie may not be capable of working as a leader, with others.
What really matters here? What is really important to resolve?
This is a serious situation that if not resolved could not only impede the growth of the company but could also cause the company to fail. What is really important to resolve is
• whether Willie’s leadership is capable of motivating and building an inspired operations workforce.
• Whether the poor motivation of the workforce is the result of Willie or certain employees
• Understand better the reasons for the poor motivation of the operations workforce
• How the workforce and Willie can work more effectively as a high functioning team
