1. To what extent has Margo Santelli chosen the right approach to leading the managers in her

unit of the financial services firm?

Answer:Laura found Margo has not chosen the best approach to leading all of the managers. Three of four managers are not sure the approach of Margo is good enough.

2. What advice can you offer Margo to be a more effective leader?

Answer:She can know much about what the managers do. She need to get more feedback from the four managers, her leadership style is open, but she also can give them some useful advice and let them know what they them need to finish. She need to be a servant leader. Her style is not suit to each manager in her group.

3. What advice can you offer Laura to help Margo be a more effective leader?

Answer: She can talk with Margo about the feedback from managers. She can tell Margo need to work with the four managers together, and do not leave them too far. She need to participate in the group.

4. Explain whether or not you think Laura was justified in asking Margo’s direct reports about

Margo’s approach to leadership.

Answer: She asked the permission of Margo, it makes the interview be more justified. But she ask all of the managers in the group include Margo, she got the 360-degree feedback from everyone, it is not justified because it is too direct. It is not good for Margo to lead her group, it may not help Margo to be effective leader.

Summary:

The case study about a director in the municipal bond group of a financial services firm. She has four managers in her group. The key issue is three managers has different ideas because she did not give managers enough supervision. There are some problem to solve different issues use the same approach. The leadership approach of Margo is simple, it has advantages and disadvantages. Her approach is not appropriate to every managers. Her leadership approach gives managers more space and they can do everything by themselves because she do not care what happened in the group because she think the four managers is professional. But someone thinks that she need more supervision. Laura asked the permission to talk with Margo about her leadership approach.
