INTRODUCTION
McDonald’s Corporation is the world’s largest chain of burger fast food restaurant and also the world’s leading food service organization. The company operates over 30,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries on six continents, serving around 68 million customers daily. Most of the outlets are free-standing units offering dine-in and drive-thru services, though it also have many eateries running in airports, retail areas and other high-traffic locations. About 80% of the restaurants are run by franchisees or affiliates. McDonald’s primarily sells burgers, French fries, soft drink, shakes, desserts and even menu according to meal time (breakfast, lunch and dinner menu). In effort to comply with the constant changing of customer preferences, the company has expanded its menu to include chicken, smoothies, pies and a host of other snacks to adapt with their taste and demand changes. McDonald’s owns one of the world most recognized and respected brands; they have unparalleled global infrastructure and competencies in restaurant operations. The company uses the theory of best value at minimal price while maintaining the good quality of their foods. On top of this, providing excellent service to their customers and ensuring their customers will have a satisfied experience every time they walk in to the restaurant are the company useful strategies. The company is said to be one of the leaders in the area of social responsibility as it frequently does charity and practices go-green ethics. [1]
A little of the company history, the founder of McDonald’s is Ray Kroc back at 1950s. He was the exclusive distributor of a milk shake called the Multimixer. Meanwhile, two brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald owned and ran a hamburger restaurant in San Bernadino, California. Ray Kroc overheard the Mcdonald brothers were using his Multimixers to serve customers and upon curiosity he went to have a look and acquired the franchising right from them to run McDonald’s restaurants. In 1965, McDonald’s goes public for the first time and one of the biggest achievements of the company is that in 1985 McDonald’s becomes one of the 30 companies that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Since then, a great success was in the making even though Ray Kroc died in 1984 but his legacy and his hard work continues and now McDonald’s grew into the largest restaurant organization in the world. The company has always been a virtue in Malaysia when it comes to hamburgers.
