Executive Summary
The McGinty Family Foundation was established in 1989 with the goal of improving the quality of education in Cuyahoga and surrounding counties through the distribution of grants to schools and teachers. It started with a foundation donation pool of $3 million to be distributed as grants. To date, they have been able to give $6 million in funds to local schools in order to buy books, uniforms, computers, and many other educational tools to improve the quality of life of the population.
The Foundation has several strengths to their approach; firstly, they have approximately $2.7 million available to distribute in grants. They also actively go out to schools that could use these grants to their advantage. Their board of trustees is strongly committed to the cause of the foundation so it helps them quickly distribute the grants to worthy recipients.
One large problem that the McGinty Family Foundation has is spreading their brand awareness. There are many teachers and schools out there that cannot apply to the foundation because they do not know it exists. Being that they are dependent on donors to give money to their foundation it is to their disadvantage that there is less disposable income in our economy today than in the past, which may discourage individuals from giving sizable donations.
The current target market for the McGinty Family Foundation is all K-12 schools in the Cuyahoga Country area. More specifically, they should target schools that have a lack of government funding such as Catholic and inner city schools. They currently advertise their foundation primarily through word-of-mouth but need to branch out to local newspapers, other sources of news media, and have charitable events.
McGinty's overall goal is to increase the quality of the education through meaningful donations. They need to promote to schools that share their vision and actually need aid to better their students and teachers. They need to stress the importance of the grants to potential teachers and schools, which should help increase the amount of applicants to apply for grants.
The Foundation needs to make sure that there are constant returns on their investments. They also need to cut internal costs as much as possible to ensure that
