Mystic Monk Coffee Case
1. Has Father Daniel Mary established a future direction for the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming? What is his vision for the monastery? What is his vision for Mystic Monk Coffee? What is the mission of the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming?
Yes, Father Daniel Mary has artfully integrated his mission for the success and expansion of the monastery with the economic success of Mystic Monk Coffee (MMC). In his vision he expects that the MMC will provide the funding to achieve his future goals of maximizing the potential of monastic opportunities. What is conspicuously absent from his plan is the total operating funds he needs to run the expanded monastery according to his vision including how much it takes to currently run his operations. To achieve his goals, he must acquire that information.
Father Daniel Mary first founded the Wyoming Carmelite monastery in 2003. He has now established the future direction for Carmelite Monks where he expects to fund the expansion and operations of the monastery by the donations from the community as well as profitable operations of MMC. The most important vision Father Daniel Mary has includes expanding the monastery by acquiring the Irma Lake ranch for its current listed price of $8.9 million. Furthermore, his vision is to transform the small brotherhood of 13 monks living in a small home into a 500-acre monastery that would include accommodations for 30 monks instead of 13, a Gothic church, a convent for Carmelite nuns, a retreat center for lay visitors, and a hermitage. Based on his analysis, we know he needs $8.9 million to purchase the land, he expects to earn nearly $75k from his coffee operations, they received a $250k donation, and a group of Cody business owners have committed to support them but it’s not clear how much it costs to run his current monastery and how much it will take to run his future monastery. Also it is unclear how much financial support Father Daniel needs from donations or how much he expects. Information is missing on how much budget deficit the donations will cover.
Father Daniel expects that a successful MMC will have monthly revenues of $56k from the coffee business at a net profit margin of 11%. This will generate nearly $75k annually to support the operation of the monastery. Basically the purpose of the Mystic Monk Coffee is to make the vision a reality, by turning the coffee into the land, in other words, to use Mystic Monk Coffee to purchase the new land.
The mission of the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming is to acquire the Irma Lake ranch in order to expand from 13 monks to accommodate 30, create a Gothic church, a retreat center, a hermitage and also a convent. Father Daniel expects the funding for his mission to come from the profits of coffee operations and ongoing community donations.
