Novo Nordisk, created in 1989 through a merger of two Danish companies, is a pharmaceuticals company that operates globally as a leading developer and manufacturer of insulin and related products. Corporate social responsibility is important to Novo Nordisk, and they aim to protect their various stakeholders.
There are a few ethical principles that should be required to carry out trails in at multiple sites around the world including in emerging economies. These include premise control, implementation control, strategic surveillance and special alert control. Premise control means that Novo Nordisk would need to continuously check to ensure that the assumptions on which their strategies were based on were still valid including environmental and industry factors. Assessing whether the overall strategy should be changed in light of recent results implemented is a part of implementation control. Early identification of success factors, and milestone reviews being completed is also important. Strategic surveillance is designed so Novo Nordisk can monitor a broad range of events internal and external to the firm that are likely to affect courses of its strategy of global trials. Lastly, Novo Nordisk as an ethical principle should use special alert control. This is the rapid reconsideration of a firm’s strategy due to unexpected events. A specialized, trained crisis team will need to be arranged in order to complete this special alert control.
Novo Nordisk currently has various procedures currently implemented; however there is always room for improvement. The various forms of social responsibility include a stakeholder dimension, business ethics, and climate change and health advocacies such as the Diabetes pandemic. These are all very positive corporate social responsibilities for Novo Nordisk to undertake.
