Diversity
Either on our workplace or our everyday life, there is what’s called diversity what is more into our life than we think. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, diversity is and I quote: “The instance of being composed of different elements or qualities”. Many times in life I remember having to face it in different ways or situations. For instance, a few years back, I was in a the classroom where the teacher called me out on a question. When I got it right, everybody in the classroom was staring even after I sat back down. And by the look I could say that they where surprised that I was able to answer that so a few days later in class I brought it up. Well, why is diversity so important? One could simply think that it is good because when going past that it can increase productivity in the workplace or give people the chance to of fairness in society.
The diversity always brings up the topic of equal treatment what is really important in society. Treat everyone equally makes everything a lot easier and way more effective because it changes the level of productivity in a positive way. When I had people staring at me in class, I assumed that it was because they felt like I was out of place, not because I was someone of race but because people tend to stereotype me since I’m a student-athlete. Now, if this was just an assumption, I was caught up in a conversation after school one with other where they shared with an opinion of me being part of the school. The fact that most people thinks we athletes are far from being smart enough to be in this type of school was pretty clear which is one of the reasons I spoke up another day and brought it up to the attention. There was really no satisfaction I could have encoured out of that but the fact I knew they were aware of my awareness of their way of thinking was a relief.
