Observation report: Target
Location: 888 W Arrow Hwy, San Dimas, CA 91773
In the United States, Target is the second-largest discount store retailer, which behind Walmart. I visited the retail store that located in San Dimas. The appearance of Target looked very simple, and the size of the store was huge. I could clearly find the shopping carts after I went in the store because they were put between the exit and entrance. Generally, the layouts of all Targets’ retail stores were similar. I had observed the whole layout of several Targets’ stores, and found that though the construction was different between each other, but the location of sections were similar. For example, the pharmacy section is located at the bottom side, the guest service section is located at the right side, the grocery section is located at the most left side and etc.
After I went in the store, I directly walked to the grocery section. The grocery section had more than 10 good shelves, and both sides were numbered. There were 40 numbers and each of them sold different items. For example, G1 and G2 sell cold cheese, lunchmeat, bacon, butter, egg, yogurt and etc. From G3 to G8, there are seasonal fruits. G9 sells cold fresh vegetables and meats. G10 sells cold entrees. From G11 to G13, they sell frozen items, such as ice cream and meals. G14 and G15 sell bread, salad, butter and snacks. G16 and G17 sell Hispanic and Asian items, pasta, dry rice and bean. G18 and G19 sell sugar, oil, soup and other seasonings. G20 and G21 sell baking mixed items, tea and coffee. G22 and G23 sell cereal, hot cereal, pancakes and syrup. G24 and G25 sell gum, powdered beverage, mints, chocolate and candy. G26 and G27 sell chips and snacks. G28 and G29 sell lunchbox and nut. G30 sell cookies and G31 sell wines. From G32 and G35, they sell water and drinks. From G36 to G40, they sell pet items. In general, Target has a wide range of items.
