Assignment #3: Performance Management

Create a job description for a retail sales associate, which includes the most significant components necessary to describe the job internally and externally.

“There is a concrete link between retail store staffing and the customer experience that makes itself felt at the cash register, a new study shows” (Smith, 2012, pg.1, par.1). According to one retail chain, a 1% rise in shopper fulfillment equated to a 2% increase in store sales (Smith, 2012). On the contrary, the penalty for poor performing or unavailable retail sales associates is costly walk-outs and lost sales. One out of three customers feel highly skilled and knowledgeable retail sales associates as the primary or drawing force when making a high-dollar, luxury purchase (Smith, 2012). Therefore, in today’s ultra-competitive and cut throat market, it is important for companies to get it right when hiring a retail sales associate. A huge part of this process is creating a detailed retail sales associate job description entailing significant components necessary to successfully carry out duties and responsibilities.
