Determining how long each activity is going to take, is computed by using the optimistic, most probable and pessimistic timeline value and computing the value. The expected time gives the most accurate picture of how long the activities will take giving consideration to each variable.
Activity | Optimistic | The Most Probable | Pessimistic | Expected Time | Variance |
A | 4 | 6 | 8 | 6 | 0.44 |
B | 6 | 8 | 16 | 9 | 2.78 |
C | 2 | 4 | 6 | 4 | 0.44 |
D | 8 | 10 | 24 | 12 | 7.11 |
E | 7 | 10 | 13 | 10 | 1.00 |
F | 4 | 6 | 8 | 6 | 0.44 |
G | 4 | 6 | 20 | 8 | 7.11 |
H | 4 | 6 | 8 | 6 | 0.44 |
I | 4 | 6 | 14 | 7 | 2.78 |
J | 3 | 4 | 5 | 4 | 0.11 |
K | 2 | 4 | 6 | 4 | 0.44 |
The critical path is the longest time path through the network, to determine this the earliest start, earliest finish, latest start and latest finish values are decided. For the earliest start and finish times, the forward pass method is used. The backward pass method is used to determine the latest start and finish time for each activity. This determines how long it will take to finish the project completely.
