Reasons for Change
Every company these days at one point or another are going through modifications. Technology is growing and it makes it so it’s modifying at a very fast pace. AT&T is a very large well known organization that started back in 1875, well before any of the technology that we have today, even with the technology we have today they are still very famous organization presently in 2016. For AT&T to remain successful after so long, it was important for them to understand how to make modifications since technology is continuing to alter.
Back in 1875, when AT&T first was established, the world was a lot different than it is today. There were not all of the mobile phones, tablets and internet like we have today. The phone that there was back then was nothing like the types we have today, it was a very old style of phone and was just then developed. It was a brand new technology. AT&T has been very fortunate to be able to start a business back then and still today have a very successful business that will more than likely remain successful.
In the article titled, “The Company that Changed the World”, has been awarded 11 Nobel prizes (Aarhus, 2011). Within AT&T there was a division known as Bell Labs who was the one that offered the technology of the facsimile machine for the first time ever in 1926. Because AT&T was lucky enough to have this technology in the early stages it made it easy for them to be able to stay one step ahead and keep their business successfully going. Since the world of technology kept changing, they were able to stay on top of it all. Later when the web was discovered, AT&T was able to have the room within their organization to offer and provide the net to their customers. When technology enhanced and mobile phones were introduced, they were able to provide the service to their mobile customers, it was the same with pagers. Any form of communication that you can have these days are and can be provided to the customers by AT&T. You still see a little bit of use when it comes down to regular landlines, even though a lot of people prefer the use of their mobile devices over a landline. If AT&T only provided landline to their customers and not the mobile devices that most of us use now days, their organization would more than likely be going downhill gradually. Most individuals like the options of having alternatives, these days you can find multiple alternatives to what AT&T has to offer such as Sprint and T-Mobile. These organization have made competition for AT&T.
