REPORT ON EBC CORP. SICK LEAVE TREND FOR THE YEAR 2010

Introduction

The purpose of this report is to provide a summary of the sick leave trend of EBC Corp. over the year 2010. Subsequently, possible reasons for the deviations will be given.

Sick leave trends

During the first quarter of the year there is a gradual fall in the graph from 55 to 45. This is followed by a three-month consistent increase in the sick leave trend which peaks out in June just below the astonishing number of 70 sick people. Over that month a dramatic plunge is illustrated where the sick leave reaches its all time low in August. From August to the middle of September the graph depicts slight changes of the sick leave trend. However, the deviations from the mean of the aforementioned period are not dramatic and the numbers stay approximately between 20 and 30.

Subsequently, after a period of insignificant changes, the graph presents a tremendous climb of the sick leave trend which begins in September. The number of sick people continues to increase by approximately ten employees per month. Following this trend, the graph arrives at its highest peak for 2010 just before the end of the year with 75 sick people.

Trends causes

Investigating the graph, three major changes in the sick leave trend can be noticed. Namely the three-month increase from April to June, the dramatic fall over July, and the tremendous climb starting in September and continuing until the end of the year.

Firstly, the consistent increase during the second quarter of the year may be a sign of employees planning summer vacations. This is supported by the fact that there is a dramatic decrease of the sick leave over July which shows the end of summer and the fact that people are getting
