With all the employees in a corporation, the HR department’s employees can spend hours answering benefit questions for each person. The best option with having the availability of the internet is a website for the online self-service benefits management system. Many of your bigger companies now have benefits resources web sites and smaller ones outsource it to a human resources management company. The advantage is the employees can go to the website 24/7 by accessing from anywhere and have their questions answered. Should they have one they cannot have answered immediately, then there is a contact us section where they can send the question and expect an answer back usually with 24 to 48 hrs.
An employer can customize the benefits website to their employee’s needs. Such as the benefits web-site chosen by the Pennsylvania school districts. Benelogic offered the best solution for the Pennsylvania school districts regarding the benefit-related questions their employees needed. Each school district has their own Web page and there is a link which will take the employee to that school board’s Web site with Benelogic. As part of their service, Benelogic updates, maintains, and hosts everything on their own mainframes. This web based solution is called the “Employee Benefit Electronic Service Tool” and allows the users to manage all of their benefits in one spot. Benelogic will coordinate with Oracle’s PeopleSoft and companies like the payroll company ADP, to answer all the questions a user might have. The following is from the Benelogic website (2015) and gives you an idea of their goals and how they work. This is a system designed to assist the employer and the employee at the same time.
Benelogic is a company which is singularly focused on benefits administration. The web-based portals were designed to bring information about the benefits together and to help employees manage benefits and make informed decisions. As is stated on their website: “Our desire was to manage benefits the right way - starting with a valid, accurate, authoritative data source that fed all systems. We gathered experts in technology, human resources, compliance and benefits management to provide perspectives and input. The goal – to build a highly intuitive system that served Employees, Employers, Consultants, and Carriers” (Benelogic, 2015)
USAA’s website can help an employee manage stress or find ways to deal with a badly behaving child. When you click on the needed information, you can be redirected to links to give you information to help you resolve the situation. “Boeing’s Pay and Benefits Profile site gives employees real-time information about their salary and bonuses, benefits, pension, and even special services such as child care referrals” (Dessler, 2013, p. 442). This websites assist in the work-life balance for the employee. There are different ways to manage and fund a retirement plan. One is social security, others are provided by employer and employee contributions.
