IKEA is the world’s largest furniture retailer that mainly focuses on modeling and retailing not assembled furniture. It also sells complementary accessories that go with the furniture and other home accessories. IKEA was founded by Ingvar Kamprad in Sweden when he was 17 years old. IKEA is the abbreviation of Ingvar Kamprad, Elmtaryd, which was the farm he grew up. And Agunnaryd means his hometown in South Sweden. IKEA’s mission is to create substantial and lasting change by funding holistic, long-term program in some of the world’s poorest communities that address children’s fundamental needs: home, health, education and a sustainable family income. IKEA has explained it’s mission through its astonishing actions. According to the IKEA’s 2014 annual review, over 178 million children were helped by far; 104 million euros were donated in 2014; 15 years supporting program in India; 40 partners around the world; 10.1 million euros raised through soft toys for education campaign. 46 countries where IKEA’s projects helped children;7.7 million euros raised in the first brighter lives for refugees campaign and 10 million euros given to help in emergencies and disasters.
Furthermore, IKEA’s strategy is to achieve large-scale results by addressing four fundamentals in children’s lives – a place to call home, a healthy start in life, a quality education and a sustainable family income – whilst applying innovative solutions to accelerate development and increase efficiency. Moreover, IKEA’s goal is to keep the affordability and sustainable at home. According to the video, IKEA has 42 distributions and more than 1000 suppliers in order to keep the affordability at home. In order to keep the sustainability at home, the wood used by IKEA comes from a sustainable forest in Hultsfred Sweden.
