I think it is extremely crucial to understand Human Behavior for any organization, especially with fast world movement, in addition, to world economic crises which make the continuation and sustaining of any organization debatable.
The initial step towards understanding of Human Behavior is self understanding. A person who does not understand himself cannot understand others.
As a leader, it is supremely necessary to be aware of your personality more than anybody else because as a leader responsible about other people in the organization must know himself before knowing others. Indeed, it is required for every person in the organization.
Personality
Our personalities shape our behavior. So if, we want to better understand the behavior of someone in the organization we need to understand what personality is.
There are various definitions. It was defined by (Robbins and Judge, 2009) as “the sum total of ways in which an individual reacts and interacts with others”, and defined by Gordon Allport as “the dynamic organization within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine his unique adjustments to his environment” (Allport, 1937)
Tools
There are several assessment tools available; one of the best tools is Myers-Brigger Type Indicator. It is currently the most commonly used tool in the world to assess personalities (Jing and Dan-min, 2007). It classifies people into 16 different categories or groups.
I believe that conducting a regular self assessment and maintain tracking for these assessments’ results in order to have analytical reports that measure the changes. The outcomes of these exercises will help to plan for better monitoring and improvements.
