Seminar on Job Interview
Making a good impression in a job interview is essential for it is the time when you are evaluated by an employer for prospective employment in their company. During the interview, the employer hopes to determine whether or not the applicant is suitable for the position. The speaker, Mr. Jose Peria, has taught us the Do’s and Don’ts during job interviews. Those things will help us to have successful interviews in the future.
First impression matters for it will not be forgotten easily. The speaker stressed that you must then have a good impression during your interview. Dress properly for the interview. Dress as if you are part for the job, the company and the industry. Never be late on your appointment for interviews. Late arrival for a job interview is never excusable. Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early. Take a practice run to the location where you are having the interview and be sure you know exactly where it is and how long it takes to get there to avoid being late.
When you are called for an interview, the employer have already have gone through your application letter and resume. The interviewer knows the basics about you. They had read your background, your work experience, your general interests, why you want to join the organization and etc. Mr. Peria told us that whatever the employer knows is only one-sided. The employer only knows what you have decided to reveal based on the information that you have provided that made the interviewer decide that you were worthy of a meeting for an interview. It is time then to prove that you are as good as you projected to be in your application letter and resume. Research and know the type of job interview you will be encountering to practice for the interview. But, do not memorize or over-rehearse your answers. You might look like having an oral recitation in front of the interviewer.
Shake the hands of the interviewer firmly. Wait until you are offered a chair before sitting. You must remain standing until you are offered to have a sit. The speaker said that if five minutes have passed and, still, you are not offered a seat, ask nicely if you can have your seat. Sit upright and look alert and interested at all times. Don't fidget or slouch. This may affect your performance in your interview. Maintain an eye contact with your interviewer. This will tell the interviewer that you are truthful in the interview.
The speaker told us that as the interview formally starts, you have to make sure to remember that it is a communication process. This means that you have to be clear when you talk. You must then speak clearly and answer clearly. Speak loud enough and pronounce your words well enough so that you are well understood. You have to satisfy whatever was on the mind of the interviewer when he or she asked you the question. If you are not sure what was asked, ask the interviewer to repeat
