THE SIX SIGMA COMPANY
Larry Abeleda, Purchasing Manager of Six Sigma Company, manufacturer and exporter of a wide
variety of industrial products for the petrochemical industry, just arrived at the office and immediately
perused over the pile of documents in his in-basket on top of his desk.
One enveloped he opened was an invitation for a golf tournament, sponsored by one of Six Sigma’s
biggest supplier of sealants, Sealtite Corporation. Larry was an avid golfer and enjoyed this game immensely and always looked forward to playing every second Sunday of each month with his friends
from his high school.
As he scanned the invitation, it appears that the tournament was set in two weeks time and it was to be held in Singapore, all expenses paid, leaving on a Friday and returning Sunday evening. The affair also
will showcase Sealtite’s new products to be launched soon in the market and advance orders would be accepted at the event. There will also be a dinner cruise on board a yatch and assure the guests a
fun filled night dubbed “ Boys Night Out”. Larry have heard of these dinner parties of Sealtite and it
always intrigued him. For the female attendees of this affair, they will have a counterpart dinner and
a will attend the ballet presentation of the world famous Russian Ballet Group, who will be in Singapore
at that time.
Just as he was about to open his laptop computer, the phone rang and his secretary said it was Mr. Jun
Cheng, VP Marketing over at Sealtite Corporation, inquiring if he had received the letter invite and would want to know his availability. Larry took the call and said that he will have to check his schedule and also seek permission from his boss and will call him (Jun Cheng) after lunch as his boss was not in yet. Actually Larry did not really have to seek permission as he had always been given a free hand by management to attend to any business related travels. Just an advice from him to management that he will travel and be gone for a number of days will be sufficient notice to them.
