Case Analysis
It is the sole purpose of any business to not just make money, but to ensure the longevity of the business’ success. Unfortunately, this gets more difficult with every new business that sprouts up, and with the existing amount of businesses implementing new strategies to essentially steal or gain the customers from these businesses. There is always a need to stay ahead of the game and proactively drive new training for employees to “think outside of the box” and ensure the customers stay where they are shopping. From the text’s case analysis, this is exactly the case and unfortunately, they appear to be a smaller box corporation competing against some bigger box companies. With their strategy developed, there is only one step next to implement, the training of the employees on their overall strategy.
Fred, a new manager overseeing all of the staff, has been given an immense responsibility to have all of the non-management employees trained on customer relation skills with a budget of $70000. With this responsibility in hand, Fred decided to pick the third option of having a consultant train all of the employees, resulting in him being under budget by $20000 and the customer satisfaction guarantee that the staff will be up to the organization’s customer service standards. I think Fred is certainly making the right decision, as not only is this an effective way to train all of the employees up to the organization’s standards of customer relation skills, but it is being done in a budget efficient way. In essence, this is showcasing the new vision of the company and according to Blanchard, if an organization is trying to communicate a new vision, then the necessity of a TNA, (training needs analysis) will not be relevant or needed. (Blanchard & Thacker, 2013, p. 91) Again, this is reflective to the organization’s strategic goals and there would probably be an opportunity to redefine how they deal with their customers utilizing new customer relation skills.
Since there are many effective possibilities with the training Fred has chosen, it is necessary to get the employees up to an understanding of why this training is necessary and what is going on in the environment around them. With that information, things such as motivational techniques will be beneficial in helping him get the most effective training through to his employees.
