From the graph, we can see that the graph is using three-dimensional space to draft it. It is difficult to determine that the graph is using correct scale to draw it or not. Furthermore, there are some missing year data in the early Paleozoic period.
Besides, the graph draws an oblique x-axis line from left to right and there is no y-axis exist. Also, the time intervals are not uniform in size. Those factor may be misleading the reader which the drafter want to emphasize with.
More than that, the graph is talking about the percent of world’s original petroleum reserves. In the graph, there are some blank space between different time intervals. The world’s petroleum reserves should not be reach zero in anytime.
There is unnecessary adornment in the graph, which is the dinosaur. In this graph, it should be mainly focus on the petroleum reserves. Dinosaur only represent the Paleozoic period, it cannot represent the Mesozoic and Cenozoic period.
Finally, the graph uses the green bar and red bar to indicate the oil and gas reserves respectively. The problem is the oil and gas bar mix together. The reader cannot actually to know that the percentage of oil and gas reserves.
Draw more appropriately
First of all, it should be use two-dimensional instead of three-dimensional to draft the graph. The x-axis should go from left to right and it should be a horizontal straight line. Beside, the time interval should be uniform in size. These improvements can make sure that the graph are using the same scale and no more visual misleading.
Second, the drafter should fill in any blank space above the year and it is better to adjust the bar position which is on top of the year show in x-axis. In present time, it is impossible that there are no any petroleum reserves around the world. Also, it is better to remove the dinosaur
