Support and Promote Staff Welfare

Staff welfare is a raising issue in companies especially in developed countries. Basically, every employer is required by law to provide essential amenities with sanitary measure such as toilets, clean drinking water for employees. Most employees also hope to find additional facilities such as a cloakroom and somewhere clean to eat and drink during breaks. For larger companies, it could even provide range from a vending machine to a dining room or canteen, perhaps with a separate coffee area (Healthy Working Lifes, 2008).
Relationship between staff welfare and organisational objectives
Employee welfare is a major concern of employers. Prior to the labor union movements of the early 20th century, it is observed that employers cared little about employee welfare and instead thought to bring employees at the lowest price as possible. In today's world, employers must be more careful to watch out for employee welfare because it will highly affect the performances from them. Also, Welfare helps in keeping the morale and motivation of the employees high so as to retain the employees for longer duration (Jared, Demand, 2010).
Besides, there are several advantages to promote staff welfare.
Enhance production:
Employee welfare promotion can create happy and productive employees. Creating happy employees are significant for the organisations as they can self-motivated and do his job correctly. Ultimately, better performances can lead to better production.
Better health to work:
Employees who are happy and healthy are more likely to show up everyday to work and perform better. In contrast, poor health employees are more likely to absent on work and slow production.
To relieve workers from industrial fatigue:
Long time working can cause fatigue for the workers as a result of the poor production. Providing variety staff welfare can help employees reduce tiredness such as gym membership, chilled zone in the offices, coffee area as well as working at home.
Systems of assessing staff welfare
Walmsley& Bernice (2010) suggested a strictly approach from the senior managers in health and safety will make a decisive effect on the workers’ attitudes among the organisation. There are some behaviours that show how it is work. Firstly, senior managers could show personal commitment to health and safety matters. Secondly, organization can set high standards for health and safety performance as well as provides necessary resources to comply with health and safety policies. Besides, organisation can raise the health and safety issues among different department that request managers responsible for it and hold a meeting regularly in order to respond to the requirement.
