Systems Development Life Cycle

The systems development life cycle, also known as the waterfall model, consists of seven phases. Those phases are planning, systems analysis, system design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance. When this model is being used by a company they will usually complete one phase before beginning on the next. During the planning phase a systems analyst, who may or may not work for the company, will outline a proposed system, develop a budget, and create a detailed development schedule. System development life cycle (SDLC) models were created to build and also fix the ever changing IS environment. Some of those models created include; waterfall, fountain, spiral, build and fix, rapid prototyping, incremental, and synchronize and stabilize. We also learned about the importance of following all the steps in a project management system, and completing each step before beginning the next. This helps to identify and correct problems early.

Presentation tools to communicate Business Objectives

The team also discussed the use of presentation tools. Presentation tools can include different things such as spreadsheets, PowerPoint, word documents, or even videos. When running a business you will need to have systems in place that manages payroll and other employer needs that could be where spreadsheets come into place. Spreadsheets can also be used to track and evaluate business operations and how effective your business is operating with reference to specific internal processes. Team members concluded that there is a distinct difference between Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access and the functions it provides, it was agreed that it is important to understand the benefits and differences between the programs so you can choose the best suited application for your specific use.
