Introduction

Leader is the head of a group and he is responsible to involve in the interaction between team members. Leadership is a combination of Science and Art in which occur when a member motivates others within a group (Bass, 1990). Most of our projects and assessments in the university require us to form teams, especially for a Business students. Luckily, I am response to be the group leader in the leadership project.

In the following paragraph, I am going to discuss what an effective leader supposed to be. Afterward, I am going to distinguish one critical problem that I am facing in and need to improve, in order be a better leader. Following the description of my problem, I would like to talk about what I am planning to do to improve and analyze the efficiency of those planning. In the end of the paper, I would deliver a self-reflection on the failure in the improvement.

Criteria of Effective Leader        

Recently, I did some research on the topic of effective leader. In conclusion, there are eight factors that promoting leader effectiveness (Pulakos, Arad, Donovan and Plamondon, 2000).They are as follow:

  • Handling emergencies or crisis situations
  • Work tasks, technology, and procedures learning
  • Handling work stress
  • Demonstrating interpersonal adaptability
  • Solving problems in creative way
  • Deal with unpredictable situations

In the above table, Pulakos, Arad, Donovan and Plamondon (2000) mentioned an effective leader should handle emergencies. If a leader could not adopt a goal in a changing environment, teammates may feel frustrated. An effective leader could deliver a clear message and motivate teammates go straight to the ultimate goal and he should have an ability to handle work stress under different environment, stay clam in every situation. Think out of the box is always important for solving problem in changing environments. An effective leader should have the ability in communication, learning and physical oriented. In conclusion, a leader should care his teammates, creative, has a strong intelligence in handling problem in different aspects.
