1) Problems identified
What are the advantages and disadvantages of stages approach and big-bang approach?
How should Tektronix overcome the possible challenges of the implementation?
With cost and time consuming did Tektronix proceed with the implementation?
What are the possible useful systems that ERP might not integrated with? Or in any better way Tektronix can improve?
2) Recommendations
Initially, Tektronix implement ERP in wave approach because that is a huge change to be made in the organization and to make sure it is work, Tektronix had to implement it step by step. Stages approach allowed the employees to adopt the new system slowly and give regular feedback. At the same time employees might be confused and fall back to old system is difficult with each phrase going on.
After Tektronix identified the possible challenges and solutions in the period of “wave” approach, “big-bang” approach is applied to the rest of European countries. The risk of “big bang” is that might create high work pressure for the employee and systems performance may goes down as in catch up period. Meanwhile, the implementation period is short and cost is lower compared with long period implementation.
Tektronix can overcome the disadvantages of “Big bang” approach by training the employee before hand.
And also inform the employee that they are going to standardized the language so that the manager have time to improve themselves without being fired in a sudden and caused dissatisfaction among employees.
In implementing the high cost system, Tektronix did not hesitate and gain support from the board even though it is costly and might not gain the returns
