Suzhou is one of famous tourism area of China. That is one of the main cities in Jiangsu province, located in the east, neighboring with Shanghai. Located in the heart of the Yangtze River delta and the Taihu lake plain, the famous area of fish and rice, a scholar of the township, academician of the township, strong commercial city, historical and cultural city, enjoy "paradise" reputation of the ancient times. Also, Suzhou has a history of 2500 years, is one of the oldest cities in China (Julius, nd). This essay will be going to discuss the development of the Suzhou in relation to a Model and examine the reasons why tourists might visit and the possible typologies of those tourists.

Butler proposed that most tourist resorts like through a six stage model, and style that visitor area life-cycle; a subject is showing how any tourist resort may develop. A resort may start off from being a little, low key, and destination. In general, purpose of the Butler Model is to look at the way that visitor resorts, grow and develop. The tourist industry, like all industry, is powerful and constantly changing. Therefore, the Butler Model is the study of tourism resort; see them as time goes on and on the changing needs of the tourism industry how to change a way (Barcelona Field Studies Centre, 2013). This states that destinations like through a cycle of growth similar to the life-cycle of a product (where sales increase as the product evolves through the stages of launch, development, maturity and decline). Simply, numbers of visitors replace sales of a product (Cooper, 2012).

According to the book written by Cooper (2012) the first step is exploration (discovery) stage, “here the resort is visited by a small volume of explore-type tourists who tend to shun institutionalized travel. The natural attractions, scale and culture of the resort are the main draw, but volumes are constrained by lack of access and facilities. At this stage, the attraction of the resort is that it remains as yet unchanged by tourism and contact with local people will be high.” Because the city of Suzhou is 2500 years past, is one of the most ancient cities of China’s existing, also in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties that are a prosperous place (Xu, 1999). So it means Suzhou already is a fantastic place of tourism for a long time. Even Suzhou is an excellent place, but the transportation is terrible for people from other place to go to Suzhou in that time. Such as ride on a horse, walk, take a carriage or take a boat, this transportation is the way people can choose to go to Suzhou, and accommodation may not too much. At this stage, most people who like to Suzhou are intellectual because Suzhou is one of the foremost cultural centers of the country.
