In March 2016, I trekked to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal. It was 9 day trek in the upper Himalayas reaching a maximum altitude of 4200 metres. Having done many treks in Himalayas even at higher altitudes, this was a unique experience. Firstly because it was a solo trek without a porter or a guide hence I organized everything on my own which was quite challenging and exciting. Secondly, I got introduced to people of Nepal and fell in love with them. This trip makes me want to go to Nepal again and again.
I am applying for VP of Events as I will be quite excited to organize weekly treks, long treks as well as talk events in the next year. Some talk events (beyond what is planned by Expedition Club already) can be by famous mountaineers on subjects ranging from a particular expedition to leadership skills. I have prior experience in organizing treks as member of Hiking Club in St Stephen's College, Delhi. I also have held various positions of responsibility in college clubs including Secretary of Dramatics club (involved in producing annual and spring theatre productions, theatre productions etc.)
Having lived my entire life in India including five years of professional work experience and also travelled to other emerging markets (EM), I believe in the business opportunities that exist in these markets. Compared to developed markets, the unique feature that excites me in the emerging markets is the vibrancy of business which is a reflection of vibrancy of daily lives in these countries. Amongst various kinds of opportunities available in EM, I am most interested in contributing to capital flows to these economies with an impact investment objective which is also my career goal.
I have prior experience in event organization. At ICICI Bank, I was a member of team which organized the Annual Financial Market Summit for corporate CFOs in India. In college, I also have held various positions of responsibility in college clubs including Secretary of Dramatics club (involved in producing annual and spring theatre productions, theatre productions etc.), Hiking Club (organizing autumn treks in Himalayas). Also, since I have spent significant portion of my career in business development, I believe I am good at engaging with senior management which will help me in sourcing speakers.
