I thought this movie was a fun way of putting things into perspective. I enjoyed the songs that had clear meaning and applied to our lives in a personal financial sense. For example, when the three salesmen are telling madam blueberry that “happiness waits at the stuff mart,” they are selling her the idea that true happiness comes with gaining as many material possessions as possible. What I like about veggie tales is that they portray this thought process as being clearly wrong. At the end of the show Larry tells the audience that “being greedy makes you grumpy.” I fully agree with this statement. It was nice to see the irony in this movie that it was only when she lost everything that she found happiness. Madam blueberry realized that a thankful hear is a happy heart when she saw a little boy find contentment in a ball when he really wanted the train. She also saw the thankful heart of a little girl with her piece of pie, and she realized that this is what she truly wanted. As Christians it is important to remember that true happiness comes only in Christ. We can want and “need” stuff all we want but it will never fill the empty void in our hearts that only He can provide. I enjoyed this light-hearted film that reminded me that happiness doesn’t come with material possessions and that a thankful heart truly is a happy heart. So long as we live with an attitude of gratitude, we will find joy in Christ.
