Harimann International was a Delhi-based manufacturer and exporter of finished textiles. Vikram Dhawan after his Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from St. Stephen’s College has started Harimann International in May 1990. He started the business so as to provide income for his livelihood and also funds for his future MBA in US. Though the business was initially of the finished linens and hand-embroidered table linen later he has extended that with the women’s blouses and skirts.
Pioneer was one of Dhawan’s first customers and was a regular customer ever since. Pioneer has placed an order with Harimann for 6 styles of garments by April 6 which was a late confirmation in the season. Dhawan’s embroider has accepted other contracts in the meantime and was not able to deliver the order by March 10. After several discussions Dhawan found April 20 would fit embroider’s schedule but the embroider did not commit to that. Dhawan has made his schedule for the previous and March 20 delivery dates as Dhawan believed that he was four times as likely to receive the goods on March 20 as on March 10. Now Dhawan is worried if he will not be able to deliver the Pioneer goods by April6.
