Westover Electrical Incorporation Case Study
Course Name: Project Risk & Quality Management (PMGT 723)
Question 1
Prepare an outline for Roger Gagnon’s report. What points do you think it should cover? The purpose of this is to ensure you determine the best approach to carry out the work [5 Marks]
The Westover Electrical, Inc. is an organization related to the manufacturing sector. The most significant product in its production is wire-windings, used in the creation of electric motors. During this process, there are relevant quality issues related to the fabrication of this product mentioned before.
According to the information found on Table 1, the January Transformer Reject log: Winding Process, the following is an outline to what should be in the report:
- Comprehend the organization through its processes.
- Describe the problem involved in the process, and define the operational problem.
- Collect the data with the aim to understand and analyze the process.
- Prioritize problems, and analyze the possible aspects that are origin those problems.
- Organized maintenance in machines.
- Self-evaluation of the technical skills in order to improve the employees’ abilities.
- Use of tools for solving problems such as: force field analysis or nominal group technique so as to gather information to generate solutions.
Question 2
What tools and techniques do you think might be useful in analyzing the data?
These are the tools and techniques that we think might be useful in analyzing the data provided
- Run chart: Run chart can be used to analyse the data by showing us a pattern of variation of repeated processes overtime, which could also show us problem points.
- Control chart: A control chart can be used to analyse the data from this case study, by representing the data through a graphic display, which will illustrate the result of a process over time and can be used to prevent defects.
- Pareto chart: It can be used to analyse the data to identify and prioritize problem areas and to show greatest opportunity for improvement
- Histogram: In this case study a Histogram can be used to analyse the data provided to represent a series of bars that shows the distribution of variables
- Line graph: In this case it was used because it represents the data over a period of time
- Fish Bone: Fish bone diagram can be used to identify the possible causes, once the possible causes are identified we can work to eliminate the problems
Question 3
Prepare the detail necessary to supplement Gagnon’s recommendation and justification so that Joe Wilson will understand how Gagnon arrived at his recommendations. Select 3 tools you think are useful, and demonstrate how they can be used in this context. Several templates are available to download on the companion web-site.
