What is the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) website? Why is it important to both Human Resource professionals and non-Human Resource professionals? In this short paper I will take you on a journey of excitement as we explore the many facets of the SHRM website covering what important features that it can bring to both the professional and non-professional Human Resources teams. We will cover certain tabs within the website with a brief overview of what each of those tabs can provide to you. Than we will cover the importance of the site to the HR professional and lastly, I will talk about the importance it has for the non-HR professional.
The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest Human Resource professional society that is the leading provider of Human Resource professionals needs, along with evolving human resource management practices (About SHRM, 2017). The home page also has, which I think is one of the most important options, a calendar of upcoming events you could register for, and further your education and growth of knowledge within the human resources realm of business. The last feature I would like to touch on is the “feedback” tab that is on the right side by the scroll bar. You are able to click on that tab and give feedback about the site, or request to talk to someone directly from it, which I believe is an important tool to continue the growth of the SHRM website and keep it relevant in today’s fast changing world of business and Human Resources.
As we dig deeper into the site and review the upper tabs, we see HR today, which covers relevant news, public policies, and trends and forecasts. Within each topic there are hyperlinks which take you to current information and articles that effect all personnel. Under public policies the take action hyperlink takes you to the SHRM Policy Action Center covering an array of HR topics. Under the resource and tools tab, it covers multiple HR topics and leads to articles discussing outcomes of recent events affecting the HR community and employees. It also has resources like the Diversity
